Most of us have been brought up to believe the big fat lie that tells us that how we feel and react is mainly influenced by what’s happening around and outside of us. For example, my job makes me feel stressed, the weather makes me feel miserable, speaking in public makes me feel anxious, flying makes me feel panicky, etc.

Even the very term ‘panic attack’ is itself completely misleading; to suggest that ‘panic is attacking me!’ is absolute bollocks! This outdated way of thinking only serves to create the illusion that my feelings are something outside of my control. As long as we allow ourselves to believe this utter nonsense, we will continue to feel helpless and powerless to do something to stop feeling the way we do – other than run away or avoid it.

The truth is  your job doesn’t make you feel stressed, the weather does not make you feel miserable, public speaking does not make you feel anxious, people do not make you feel judged, and panic definitely does not attack you. If things really did make us feel stressed or anxious, then why don’t we all get stressed or anxious over the same things?

It’s the very same reason why we don’t all have the same favourite colour, we don’t all prefer our streak rare, we don’t all love the same music, and why beauty is really in the eye of the beholder. This is because we all think and thus feel slightly differently about everything.

Therefore, things/events that happen in our daily lives don’t make us feel or act the way we do. It’s how we individually think about and interpret these things/events that makes us feel and act the way we do – WE create what WE experience.

We are NOT affected by what is happening around us –  we are affected by our thoughts of whatever is happening around us!
